Per usual, it's totally possible that some substance has gone over my head, but isn't it basically just a sex jam? Her bragging about how sex with her is a divine/transcendent experience? I've got nothing against a good sex jam, but for me she's done that far more effectively with the likes of "Love Me Harder," "Let Me Love You," etc. "Disapproval" is too harsh (though I can see how its chart run here gives that impression) It's just.fine for me, and it's definitely strange/perplexing to watch an artist I've adored (for single after single after single before) finally win over so many people with a song that leaves me feeling fairly indifferent. "Respect" is a battle cry, an assertion of equality, but "(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman" is a deeply soulful, sensual love song, and I always got the sense that that was the vein of song that Aretha felt most at home with (alongside gospel standards). I am very much here for the Mother Diva tracks! I'm especially glad to see "(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman" is the top AF track, as I personally feel that to be the ultimate Aretha song in so many ways.
